The Mavericks have erased 3-0 deficits in both of the last two games, earning a weekend split against the Kalamazoo Wings (4-3 win) and Quad City Mallards (5-3 loss) at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Over the last two games, Kansas City has outscored its opponents by a 7-3 clip in the second and third periods of action.
Close Game Comfort
The Mavericks are a perfect 7-0-0-0 on the year in one-goal games. Five of those wins have come in games that go beyond regulation as the Mavericks are 3-0 in overtime and own a 2-0 shootout record.
Speaking of Close Games…
Both of the Mavericks’ wins over Wichita this season have come in overtime, a 2-1 decision at INTRUST Bank Arena and a 4-3 win at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Darren Nowick and Shawn Pauly claimed the game-winners, respectively, as the Mavericks own a two-game win streak over their rivals across state line.
McMurtry Leads The Way
Stockton Heat signee Mike McMurtry has caught fire and now leads the Mavericks in points (24), goals (10) and assists (14) after racking up five points over the last two games (2G+3A). McMurtry also is tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (2) and is second on the team in power play goals with two.
Looking For No. 3
The Mavericks are seeking their third-straight win over Wichita with tonight’s game. Should the Mavericks come out on top they would own more than half of Wichita’s losses on the year through 20 games. The only other team to beat the Thunder this season is Allen, which has handed the Thunder both of its regulation losses thus far.
