INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Matt Robertson will represent the Mavericks at the 2018 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic, announced by the league on Friday.
In addition to playing in the 3-on-3 tournament, Robertson will be featured in the Rapid Fire Shootout as part of the Skills Competition. Robertson will have a chance to showcase his penalty shot ability in the contest.
Robertson replaces Mike McMurtry, who was named an All-Star prior to being recalled by the AHL Stockton Heat. McMurtry remains the leading scorer on the Mavericks’ roster with 32 points.
Robertson, 25, is second on the Mavericks in scoring with 26 points despite missing an extended period of time to injury. The Rohnert Park, California native leads the Mavericks in points per game with 1.24 entering Friday’s contest at Cincinnati.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward also leads Kansas City in game-winning goals with four on the season including two over the last four games.
Robertson is in his second professional season, making his ECHL debut last year with two games with the Reading Royals and 28 with the Mavericks. He posted season totals of six goals and seven assists while battling injuries through most of the season. He has already far surpassed those numbers this year in nine fewer games played.
The Mavericks and Cincinnati Cyclones clash tonight at 6:35 p.m. Kansas City returns home next weekend for a three-game series against the Central Division-leading Toledo Walleye at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
