Forwards Breton, Freschi Re-Sign With Mavericks

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Forwards Justin Breton and Eric Freschi have re-signed with the Kansas City Mavericks for the 2018-19 season, announced Tuesday by Head Coach John-Scott Dickson.

Breton, 29, was on pace for a record year last season before falling to a leg injury in January and missing the remainder of the year. In 37 games, Breton totaled 21 points with five goals and 16 assists.

The 6-foot-1, 194-pound forward joined the Mavericks late in the 2016-17 campaign. He began his ECHL career in 2014-15 with the Alaska Aces, skating with the team in each of his first three professional seasons. He also had a brief stop with the Kalamazoo Wings prior to coming to Kansas City.

The Fitchburg, Massachusetts native played for Bentley University for his NCAA career, amassing 65 points (27g, 38a) in 140 games. The left-hand shot earned one call-up to the AHL, a two-game tenure with the Manitoba Moose in 2015-16.

“I’m looking forward to another season in Kansas City,” said Breton. “I can’t wait to help the Mavericks compete for the Kelly Cup.”

Freschi, 25, rejoins the Mavericks following his rookie campaign in 2017-18. In his first pro season, the 5-foot-11, 194-pound forward registered 24 points (7g, 17a) with a plus-4 rating in 50 games.

The Bloomington, Minnesota Native signed with the Mavericks out of Cornell University, where he received the team’s Cornell Hockey Association Award two times, an honor given annually to the player whose contributions to the team don’t show up in the box score but are in the form of energy, heart and hustle. In 126 career games with the Big Red, Freschi totaled 30 points on nine goals and 21 assists.

The right-handed forward quickly found a home in the Mavericks record book last season with a five-point night (2g, 3a) against the Wichita Thunder, most by any Maverick in the ECHL. He also finished the game with a plus-5 rating, tying for the high-water mark in team history.

“I’m excited to be back with the Mavericks organization and can’t wait to get to work,” Freschi said.

Season tickets for the 2018-19 season remain on sale.
