MOLINE, Ill. (March 17, 2017) — The Missouri Mavericks dropped the first of two games in Quad City on Friday as the Mallards outlasted the Mavericks in a 3-2 contest.
The Mallards jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead as Michael Parks and Brady Brassart scored back to back goals early in the first period. Conner Bleackley, who had three assists in his Mavericks debut last Sunday, deposited his second goal of the season at 19:50 of the first to make it a 2-1 Mallards lead after one period.
After an uneventful first 15 minutes of the second period, Nolan Laporte cashed in on a turnover in the Mavericks’ zone to make it a 3-1 lead for the Mallards with 4:52 left on the clock.
Eric Scheid narrowed the deficit to 3-2 late in the third period as he took advantage of a miscue by Mallards goaltender, Adam Vay.
After a late flurry, the Mavericks ended up coming short as Stephon Williams made 30 saves in a losing effort.
