To the Orange Army,
This has probably been one of the hardest things to put into words. It feels like yesterday I was getting off the plane at MCI to play for the Missouri Mavericks. I knew nothing about the league, the team or this city. I was just a young college kid wanting to continue his career as a hockey player. Looking back I couldn't have asked for a better organization to continue my hockey career with. To be able to play for the same team my whole professional career has been a blessing.
To all my coaches, teammates and training staff I want to thank you for helping me grow into the man I am today. You have shown me how to be a professional on and off the ice. What I have learned from all of you will help me make the transition into the next chapter of my life.
To the Missouri Mavericks organization, thank you for believing in me and continuing to grow the sport of hockey in the KC area.
To my Adopt-A-Mav families, thank you for making me a part of your family. This a great program that helps us get through the season, as some of us are far away from our families, it’s nice to have someone close to call family.
To the Orange Army, thank you for being the best fans in the league. Through all the ups and downs you have never left our side. I will never forget the noise you bring to every game and the true love that you have for the sport and team. My only regret is not being able to bring a championship to you, but I know one day you will experience that thrill and I cannot wait to read all about it. You have helped to create so many memories that one day I will share with my son or daughter.
If I hadn’t played in Missouri I never would have met such a beautiful, kind and loving woman, my wife Kara. She has been my rock these past 4 years and has been through all the ups and downs of my career. I am so grateful for her and her family and for making KC my home.
Lastly, I just want to thank my parents and brother, you have been a big part of who I am and how far I have come. You have put up with a lot, but always stuck by my side, I hope I have made you proud because without the three of you none of this would have happened.
It is time to close this chapter of my life as a professional hockey player and start a new one. THANK YOU again, from the bottom of my heart for everything, there will always be a spot in my heart for the Missouri Mavericks family.
It has been an honor to be a Maverick,
#27 Andrew Courtney
