LAS VEGAS - Kansas City Mavericks general manager Brent Thiessen was named ECHL Executive of the Year at the league meetings in Las Vegas.
The honor is Thiessen's fourth Executive of the Year nomination as the general manager of the Mavericks but first in the ECHL as his previous three awards came in the CHL.
"I'm incredibly humbled to be recognized by the league and teams with this award," said Thiessen. "This honor is a testament to the hard work, dedication and passion of our entire staff, team and fan base."
Prior to the 2016-17 season Thiessen hired a new coach in former Maverick John-Scott Dickson, who guided the team to a winning season in his first season behind the bench. Off the ice, the Mavericks contributed $375,000 to various charitable causes, underwent a rebranding to become the Kansas City Mavericks and reached an agreement to become the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames.
The Mavericks start the 2017-18 season on the road at Tulsa on Friday, Oct. 13, the first of four road games to start the year. The home opener will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28 against Wichita at 7:05 p.m. CT. Season tickets for the 2017-18 campaign are on sale now.
