Mavericks Acquire Rights To Jordan Kwas In Trade

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks have acquired the rights to forward Jordan Kwas from the Wheeling Nailers, announced Friday by Mavericks President and General Manager Brent Thiessen.

In exchange for the rights to Kwas, the Mavericks sent defenseman Zach Tolkinen to Wheeling.

Kwas, 28, is set to enter his fourth season in the ECHL in 2017-18. He spent the better part of the past two seasons with the Nailers, helping Wheeling reach the Kelly Cup Finals in 2015-16.

The 5-foot-10, 183-pound forward remains unsigned for the 2017-18 season. He is coming off a year in which he posted career highs in points (44), goals (20), assists (24) and penalty minutes (58).

The Cochrane, Alberta, native had previous stints with the South Carolina Stingrays (17 games in 2015-16) and Colorado Eagles (2014-15, 2015-16). He has ECHL career totals of 41 goals and 63 assists for 104 points in 198 games played.

The right-hand-shooting forward played his collegiate hockey for the University of Alaska-Anchorage, posting career highs in points (32) and goals (13) as a senior 2013-14 before receiving the team’s Coaches Award at the end-of-season banquet.

The Mavericks open their season on the road at Tulsa on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:05 p.m. and will hold their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7:05 p.m. against Wichita. Season tickets remain on sale.
