INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (March 22, 2017) — The Missouri Mavericks beat the Allen Americans 3-2 in overtime. It was an action packed game with heavy hitting action and plenty of emotion as the Mavericks fought hard for much needed points in the standings.
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Matt Finn blasted one from the point at 8:32 of the first period. Finn beat Allen goalie Riley Gill for his ninth goal of the season. The Mavericks extended their lead to 2-0 just 3:25 later as Dane Fox netted his 29th goal of the year off of a beautiful set-up from Conner Bleackley. Allen narrowed the Mavericks lead to 2-1 at 17:58 as Wade MacLeod scored while the Americans were shorthanded.
After a scoreless second period, the Americans tied up the game at 17:29 of the third on another shorthanded marker by Joel Chouinard. Tempers flared late in the third as both teams gathered in front of Stephon Williams at 17:16 of the final frame. David Makowski received a five minute major and put the Mavericks on the power play for the remainder of regulation. The Mavericks could not cash in, but ended the game 2:49 into overtime as Alex Brooks took the puck end to end and fired in home for the win.
