MAVERICKS FALTER IN THIRD PERIOD, FALL 6-2 TO TULSA

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Kansas City Mavericks lost 6-2 to the Tulsa Oilers Saturday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Oilers scored five unanswered goals in the third period to take down Kansas City. Mavericks forward Loren Ulett scored two goals for the Mavericks, setting an ECHL career high. The Mavericks record fell to 32-24-3-2 (69 points) and they remain in the fourth and final playoff spot in the ECHL’s Mountain Division.

The Mavericks struck first on Loren Ulett’s first goal of the game 4:48 into the first period. Greg Betzold assisted on the opening score. Tulsa responded quickly, as Charlie Sampair evened the score at 1-1 on an unassisted shorthanded goal. Ulett continued to power the Mavericks offense himself, putting the Mavericks ahead 2-1 on his second goal of the evening. Max Kalter and Jordan Ernst assisted on the goal. The assist was Kalter’s first professional point.

The second period went without incident, as the score remained 2-1 going into the final period of regulation. The Oilers would rattle off five unanswered goals in the third period to take down the Mavericks by a final score of 6-2. Stephen Perfetto tied the game 13:06 into the third period. The goal was assisted by Sampair and Ian McNulty. Then, Eric Drapluk gave the Oilers the lead two minutes and 20 seconds later. Drapluk’s eventual game-winning goal was assisted by Sampair and Perfetto. Dylan Bredo piled on with another goal that was assisted by Perfetto. Roman Ammirato added an empty net goal with 1:24 left in regulation. Sampair added the final tally with 30 seconds left in the game, making the final score 6-2.
