Mavericks in the Community

2/4/25 - Players Team Up for Giving the Basics Pop-Up Event:

Daniel Amesbury, David Cotton, and Victor Ostman took part in a pop-up event at Price Chopper. The three players have created a friendly competition in support of Giving the Basics, a Mavericks Community Partner. Throughout February, the players are collecting hygiene products—Amesbury for shampoo, Cotton for conditioner, and Ostman for deodorant. The friendly rivalry will continue at Mavericks home games this month. Donations can be dropped off at entry gates of every home game or made online here.

2/3/25 - Mavericks Host Their Last Off-Site Practice at Line Creek:

The Mavericks wrapped up their off-site practice season at Line Creek, home to the KC Saints. The players got to show off their skills, followed by a fan-friendly autographed session, allowing attendees to meet the players and get some memorabilia.

1/28/25 - Mavericks Players Hit The Ice with Variety KC The team joined Variety KC to close out January with a special event:

Inviting about 25 families to the arena to try their hand at skating—both in and out of sleds used for sled hockey. The Mavericks players led the way, helping teach the families the sport and making the experience extra memorable. To get involved with Variety KC as a volunteer, you can visit their website here.

1/16/25 - Mavericks Host Another Coaches Show at Tanner’s Bar & Grill in Overland Park: 

The Mavericks hosted another Coaches Show at Tanner’s Bar & Grill in Overland Park, where coaches and three Mavericks players discussed the team’s continued success throughout the season. Despite facing injuries and call-ups, the Mavs are pushing forward and keeping their eyes on the prize.

1/16/25 - Jack LaFontaine and Nolan Sullivan Visit Ali Sportsman's Class as the "Top Classroom of the Month": 

Jack LaFontaine and Nolan Sullivan visited Ali Sportsman’s 2nd-grade class from Belinder Elementary as part of the KC Mavericks’ literacy program, Mac’s Power Play Reading Club. The class read over 13,000 minutes in December, with Mabel N. being the top reader, logging an impressive 1,500 minutes!

1/14/25 - Mavericks Players Spend the Evening with the KC Warriors:

A group of Mavericks players spent a memorable evening with the KC Warriors, a local hockey team made up of disabled veterans who travel the country to compete against other veteran teams. The Mavericks and Warriors players were able to share stories, enjoy great conversations, and celebrate the warriors' inspiring journey on and off the ice.

1/13/25 - KC Mavericks Players Kick Off Military Appreciation Week by Volunteering at Veterans Community Project:

In the lead-up to the Military Appreciation Game on January 18th, several Mavericks players volunteered at the Veterans Community Project (VCP). VCP is dedicated to helping homeless veterans reintegrate into the community at their own pace. Players toured the facility and the tiny homes VCP offers, then assisted in the Outreach Center, packaging food boxes for veterans currently residing at VCP.

12/18/24 - Mavericks and Variety KC Celebrate the Holidays at Jingle:

On December 18th, the KC Mavericks teamed up with community partner Variety KC for a festive holiday celebration at Jingle. Players and families from Variety KC enjoyed a private ice skating session, where the kids had the opportunity to learn a new skill by skating with sleds designed for sled hockey. The evening wrapped up with a heartwarming tree lighting ceremony as everyone gathered to light the big tree at Jingle.

12/17/24 - Mavericks Coaches Show Returns to Chicken N' Pickle:

The Mavericks hosted another exciting Coaches Show at Chicken N' Pickle on December 17th. Fans had the chance to hear from Head Coach & GM Tad O'Had, along with other coaches and players, as they shared insights into the team’s season and upcoming matchups. It was a fun-filled evening of hockey talk and fan engagement!

12/16/24 - Mavericks Hold Second Off-Site Practice at AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk:

The Mavericks held their second off-site practice at the newest rink in the KC area, AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk in Stilwell, KS. Home to the KC Icehawks, the rink provided a fantastic setting for the team to continue their on-ice preparations. The practice offered the players a fresh environment to stay sharp and focused as they gear up for their upcoming games.
