Mac's Power Play Reading Club

Program Overview: Starting October 1st and running through February, with incentives extending into March, Mac’s Power Play Reading Club is here to support and enhance classroom reading efforts. Designed to be adaptable to meet the needs of your students, this program encourages reading while offering exciting rewards.

What Teachers Receive:

  • Individual Student Reading Logs
  • Classroom Reading Logs
  • Bookmarks for every student
  • A promotional poster for your classroom
  • Certificates of Achievement to celebrate student progress

Program Details: Students, with support from teachers and parents, will track their reading minutes using printable logs. Teachers will then report their class’s total reading minutes each month. For students in grades K-2, minutes read aloud to them are countable, while students in grades 3-5 can include minutes spent reading to younger siblings. Teachers can select outstanding students each month for individual awards.

Monthly Rewards: Each month, Mac and select Mavericks players will visit the classroom with the most reading minutes to read to the students and distribute Minsky's Pizza coupons. Additionally, the top classroom overall will enjoy a pizza party hosted by Minsky’s Pizza, with Mac and Mavericks players in attendance. To top it off, the overall winning classroom and their families will receive free tickets to a weekday game in March.

Teacher Support: We are committed to supporting teachers by providing materials from Teachers Created Materials to the teacher of the Top Classroom of the Month. We aim to recognize their outstanding efforts by being the Top Classroom of the Month by including lesson plans and other resources to enhance your teaching experience.

Join the Fun: We invite you to be part of this exciting initiative to promote reading in the KC community. Sign up for Mac's Power Play Reading Club through the Registration Form.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How long is the program?

A. Mac’s Power Play Reading Club runs from October through February, with incentives continuing through March. Teachers should begin tracking reading minutes on October 1st, with the first report due by November 7th. The final report for February is due by March 7th.

Q. When and how do I submit my classroom's monthly report?

A. Monthly reports must be submitted online. Reports can be entered at any time, but to qualify for the Top Classroom of the Month and a potential visit from Mac and Mavericks players, reports must adhere to the following deadlines:

  • October: November 1-7
  • November: December 1-5
  • December: January 1-9
  • January: February 1-7
  • February: March 1-7

Q. How will my class receive their materials?

A. All materials will be emailed to participants who sign up for the program before October 1st. Additional resources will also be available online.

Q. Why track minutes instead of pages/books?

A. Tracking minutes is more inclusive as it accommodates varying reading abilities across grade levels. This method allows for a fair comparison of reading efforts based on total time spent reading.

Q. Can students track minutes read to them?

A. To encourage independent reading, students in Kindergarten to 2nd grade may count minutes read to them by a teacher or parent. Students in grades 3-5 can count minutes spent reading to younger siblings.

Q. How do I determine which certificate to give to each student?

A. Certificates are awarded at the teacher's discretion. Individual awards are given based on student progress, and visits from Mac and Mavericks players will occur in the month following the report submission.

Q. What does the “MVP” reader from each month receive?

A. The “MVP” reader from each class will be entered to win a VIP Experience at a Mavericks game. This experience includes watching warm-ups from the bench, standing in the VIP area as players come out of the locker room, and receiving an autographed item.

Q. What does the monthly top classroom receive?

A. The top classroom each month will receive a visit from Mac and Mavericks players, Minsky’s Pizza coupons, and additional items from Dave & Buster's. Teachers will also be provided with lesson plans and resources from Teachers Created Materials.

Q. What does the #1 overall classroom winner receive?

A. The classroom with the most reading minutes from October to February will enjoy a pizza party hosted by Minsky’s Pizza with Mac and Mavericks players. The class and their families will also receive free tickets to a weekday game in March.
