PRINCETON, N.J. – Kansas City Mavericks forward, Greg Betzold has been named the Inglasco ECHL Player of the Week for March 4-10. The 24-year-old forward turned in a huge week, totalling five goals and four assists for nine points in three games in the last week. He also scored the game-tying goal in the final seconds of regulation against the league’s top team, the Cincinnati Cyclones, forcing overtime and earning the Mavericks a standings point in their shootout loss on Sunday afternoon.
Betzold’s big week kicked off last Wednesday night in Allen, Texas against the Allen Americans, where Betzold netted four goals and had an assist in a 6-0 win. He also assisted on two goals in the Mavericks 9-3 comeback victory against the Americans on Friday, in which the Mavericks scored nine unanswered goals after falling behind 3-0 in the first period.
This is Betzold’s second season with the Mavericks, playing in a total of 107 games for KC, scoring 29 goals with 34 assists for 63 points in his career with the ECHL team.
On behalf of Greg Betzold, a case of pucks will be donated to the Kansas City Youth Hockey Association by Inglasco, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Inglasco has donated more than 39,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
