Independence, MO — The Kansas City Mavericks announced today that defenseman Jake McLaughlin has been recalled to the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the American Hockey League (AHL). This marks McLaughlin’s first call-up of the 2024-25 season.
McLaughlin, 28, has appeared in 23 games for the Mavericks this season, recording six points and a +15 plus/minus rating. The Hinsdale, Illinois native is also nearing a significant milestone, just one game shy of 200 in his professional career.
McLaughlin joined the Mavericks during the 2022-23 season and has served as an alternate captain for the team in both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 campaigns. Over his professional career, he has played in 43 AHL games and 155 ECHL games, amassing 72 points (12 goals, 60 assists) in the ECHL.
Before turning professional, McLaughlin spent four seasons at UMass, where he appeared in 138 games and contributed 42 points (seven goals, 35 assists). He was a key part of the UMass team that reached the NCAA Championship game in 2019.
