INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Kansas City Mavericks announce they have acquired defenseman Phip Waugh via trade from the Savannah Ghost Pirates.
Waugh, 26, joins the Mavericks for his fourth season of professional hockey. During the 2025-26 season, the defenseman recorded nine points in 22 games with the Ghost Pirates while also being loaned to numerous AHL teams, including Abbotsford, Hershey, and Hartford. Waugh returned to Savannah for the Kelly Cup Playoffs, helping the Ghost Pirates make their first playoff appearance in franchise history. Before his time in Savannah, Waugh signed a two-year contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, splitting time playing between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and the Wheeling Nailers.
Waugh played collegiately at Mercyhurst University before turning pro in 2024. During his time with the Lakers, the 6-foot-5 defenseman recorded 19 points in 76 games. In his final collegiate season, Waugh led all Mercyhurst defensemen with 10 goals.
