KANSAS CITY MAVERICKS EXTEND GENERAL MANAGER AND HEAD COACH TAD O’HAD THROUGH 2027–28 SEASON
The Kansas City Mavericks are proud to announce that Tad O’Had has signed a two-year contract extension to remain the organization’s General Manager and Head Coach through the 2027–28 season.
 
The 2026–27 season marks O’Had’s seventh year at the helm of the Kansas City Mavericks, where he has established himself as one of the most successful coaches in Kansas City professional hockey history.
 
During the 2025–26 season, O’Had led the Mavericks to their second Brabham Cup in three seasons as ECHL regular-season champions and a third consecutive Mountain Division Championship. Kansas City advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the third consecutive season and captured the Western Conference Championship for the second time in three seasons, earning the organization its second trip to the Kelly Cup Finals in three seasons.
O’Had was named the 2026 ECHL Coach of the Year and selected to coach in the 2026 ECHL All-Star Game, further recognizing his leadership and success at the professional level. During the 2025–26 season, he also coached his 400th game with the Mavericks and his 900th professional game.
 
Under O’Had’s leadership, the Mavericks have established a consistent culture of success both on and off the ice. He has become the winningest coach in Mavericks franchise history and Kansas City professional hockey history, recording more than 250 victories as Kansas City’s head coach.
 
With O’Had continuing to lead both the hockey operations and coaching staffs, the Mavericks enter the 2026–27 season with a proven leader at the helm and a continued commitment to building a championship-caliber organization in Kansas City.
