The Kansas City Mavericks are excited to announce the promotion of Brett Ferguson to Associate Coach, along with an extension that will keep Ferguson in Kansas City for the upcoming season.
Ferguson played an instrumental role in the Mavericks’ historic 2025–26 season, helping guide the team to its second Brabham Cup in three seasons, a third consecutive Mountain Division championship, a Western Conference championship, and an appearance in the Kelly Cup Finals.
Following the season, Ferguson and the Mavericks’ Hockey Operations staff were recognized as the ECHL Hockey Operations Department of the Year.
“Brett has had a tremendous impact on the Kansas City Mavericks, and he is extremely deserving of this promotion,” said Tad O’Had General Manager & Head Coach. “Brett connects incredibly well with our players, understands the game at an elite level, and has been a major contributor to the success of our team. His experience, leadership, and ability to develop players make him an invaluable part of our organization. We are thrilled to have him back and excited about what he will bring to the season ahead.”
Ferguson brings an extensive coaching background to his new role, including 9 seasons coaching in the American Hockey League and 5 seasons in the National Hockey League, giving him a wealth of experience at the highest levels of professional hockey.
Now entering his second season with Kansas City, Ferguson will continue working alongside the Mavericks’ coaching staff and players as the organization looks to build upon last season’s historic run.
