KANSAS CITY MAVERICKS ANNOUNCE LEADERSHIP GROUP FOR 2026-27 SEASON

INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Kansas City Mavericks are proud to announce their leadership group for the 2026-27 season, naming David Cotton team captain and selecting Jake McLaughlin and Jack Randl as alternate captains.

The selections follow a historic 2025-26 campaign in which the Mavericks set new franchise records with 55 wins and 115 points, captured their second Brabham Cup in three seasons, and made their second Kelly Cup Finals appearance in three years.

“All three of these men are incredibly deserving of the opportunity to wear a letter for the Mavericks. Each brings a different leadership style, and together, they represent the qualities we value in our organization. One of the greatest strengths of our current roster is the depth of leadership we have assembled. We are navigating some adversity early in the season, and there are lessons to be learned from our losses. However, the character, leadership, and commitment within this group make me incredibly excited about what lies ahead. We are honored to name David Cotton our Captain and Jake McLaughlin and Jake Randl our Alternate Captains for the 2026–27 season. We look forward to what this group will accomplish together.”

- Tad O’Had, General Manager/Head Coach

Cotton has served as the captain of the Mavericks in previous seasons. The Parker, Texas native has established himself as an important piece of the Kansas City organization through his consistency, offensive contributions, and professional approach. Now in his fourth season with the Mavericks, Cotton has appeared in nearly 200 games and is approaching several significant career milestones, including 300 professional games, 200 games in a Mavericks uniform, 100 career goals, 100 career assists, and 200 career points. Prior to beginning his professional career, Cotton also served as captain at Boston College, bringing a strong leadership background that extends well beyond his time in Kansas City.

“David Cotton is a tremendous leader who carries a great deal of respect and influence within our locker room. He shows up night in and night out, leads by example, and has an exceptional ability to communicate with and bring his teammates together. David has served as the Mavericks' Captain for the past three seasons, and throughout that time, he has continually risen to the occasion. He is a selfless leader who puts the team first and consistently sets the standard for what it means to wear the Mavericks jersey.

- Tad O’Had

McLaughlin also continues a familiar role with the Mavericks, once again serving as an alternate captain after holding the title in years past. The defenseman has become a dependable presence on the Mavericks blue line since joining the organization during the 2022-23 season. Now just a few games away from 300 professional games, McLaughlin also ranks among the top 10 all-time in franchise history in games played, second-highest among defensemen.

Jake McLaughlin has been a major pillar and leader of this organization for the past five seasons. His competitiveness, determination, and passion for the game are qualities that define great leaders. Jake loves playing in Kansas City and has been a major contributor to the success of this organization. He brings an edge and a fiery presence to our locker room, leading with passion both on and off the ice.

- Tad O’Had

Randl earns his place in the leadership group following an impressive rise through the professional ranks and a strong impact with the Mavericks during the 2025-26 season. In his first year with Kansas City, Randl established himself as a key offensive contributor, ranking third on the team with 49 points while leading all Mavericks forwards in power-play assists. His stellar play also earned him an AHL contract with the Mavericks affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, for the 2026-27 campaign. Prior to his professional career, Randl also served as an alternate captain for the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Jack Randl is a player who lets his performance and work ethic do the talking. He is quiet by nature, but when he speaks, his words carry weight. He is one of the most consistent and hardest-working players I have ever had the opportunity to coach. His engine, work rate, and compete level are exceptional, and he sets a standard that everyone in our locker room can learn from.
