MAVS STUN CINCY LATE, RETURN FROM BREAK WITH 3-2 WIN

MAVS STUN CINCY LATE, RETURN FROM BREAK WITH 3-2 WIN

CINCINNATI, Oh. – The Kansas City Mavericks stunned the Cincinnati Cyclones with a 3-2 win Friday night at Heritage Bank Center. Mavericks forward Mitch Hults scored the game-winning goal with 18 seconds left in regulation and goaltender Tyler Parsons was brilliant in net, stopping 34 of 36 shots by the Central Division leaders. Rookie forward Ryan Galt had two assists on the night. The Mavericks now head to Indianapolis to face the Indy Fuel on Saturday night at 5:05 p.m.

First Period-Mavericks Captain Rocco Carzo (12) netted the opening goal 2:45 into regulation. Justin Woods and Ryan Galt assisted on the goal.-Cincinnati tied the game 4:28 into the first period on a goal by Shaw Boomhower (4). Jesse Schultz and Justin Baudry assisted on the goal.-Cincinnati outshot the Mavericks in the period, 13-6.

Second Period-Neither team scored in the second period.-Mavericks goaltender Tyler Parsons stopped all 16 shots by the Cyclones in the period.-The Cyclones outshot Kansas City in the period, 16-5.

Third Period-Ryan Van Stralen (9) gave the Mavs the lead at the 4:46 mark of the third period. Jack Walker Ryan Galt assisted on the goal. -Brady Vail tied the game on the power play with 8:30 left in regulation. Justin Beaudry and John Edwardh assisted on the goal.-Mitch Hults (7) caused a turnover near the Cyclones’ zone and potted the game winning goal with 18 seconds left in regulation. The goal was unassisted.

Notes & Streaks-Mitch Hults’s game-winning goal was the latest game winning goal scored by the Mavericks this season at 19:42 of the third period.-Tyler Parsons finished the night with 34 saves on 36 shots.-The Mavericks went zero-for-five on the power play and five-for-six on the penalty kill.

The Mavericks now head to Indianapolis to face the Indy Fuel Saturday night at 5:05 p.m. at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Mavericks’ next home game will be New Year’s Eve against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 p.m. The New Year’s Eve game is a First Watch Family Four-Pack night.
