TULSA, Ok. – The Kansas City Mavericks took down division rival Tulsa Oilers Friday night with a 5-1 win at BOK Center in Downtown Tulsa. Mavericks defenseman Terrance Amorosa finished the night with three points on a goal and two assists and Mavericks Captain Rocco Carzo netted two goals in the Mavs fourth straight win. Mavericks goaltender Tyler Parsons was yet again brilliant in net, stopping 36 of 37 shots by the Oilers. The Mavericks have been red hot around the holidays and are 6-1-0-0 in their last seven games.
First Period-Tulsa grabbed the 1-0 lead 2:39 into the contest on a power play goal from Adam Pleskach. Miles Liberati and Robby Jackson assisted on the goal. -Rocco Carzo (14) tied the game for Kansas City at the six-minute mark of the opening period. Terrance Amorosa and Tad Kozun assisted on the goal.-Amorosa (4) notched his second point of the evening with a goal with 1:14 left in the first. Kevin McKernan and David Dziurzynski assisted on the goal.
Second Period-David Dziurzynski tipped home a shot from the point by Derek Pratt to double the Mavs lead to 3-1 1:45 into the second. Cliff Watson and Derek Pratt assisted on the goal. -Rookie forward Bryan Lemos (9) pushed the lead to 4-1 at 3:55 of the period. Ryan Van Stralen and Amorosa assisted on the goal.
Third Period-Rocco Carzo (15) added another goal to make it a 5-1 game with 9:19 to go in regulation. Neal Goff and Darian Dziurzynski assisted on the goal.
Notes & Streaks-The Mavericks are undefeated in the calendar year, with a 3-0-0-0 record in 2020 and have won six of their last seven games.-KC had three players register multipoint performances. Amorosa, Carzo and David Dziurzynski all found their name on the scoresheet more than once, led by Amorosa’s three-point performance.-Tyler Parsons stopped 33 of 34 shots and has now made at least 31 saves in his last five starts-KC went one-for-three on the power play and zero-for-one on the penalty kill.
The Mavericks continue their road trip Saturday night against the Wichita Thunder at INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday. Faceoff will be 7:05 p.m. The Mavs then travel east all the way to Newfoundland to face defending Kelly Cup Champions, the Newfoundland Growlers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
