VANWORMER’S LATE GOAL SENDS MAVS TO 2-1 VICTORY OVER UTAH

West Valley City, Utah  – The Kansas City Mavericks defeated the Utah Grizzlies 2-1 Friday night at the Maverik Center. Phil Marinaccio and Jared VanWormer netted goals for the Mavericks. Goaltender Matt Greenfield stopped 40 of 41 shots attempted by the Grizzlies. The Mavericks return to action Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies at the Maverik Center.

First PeriodShots: KC 16, UTA 10

Second Period Utah goal: A.J. White (9) at 4:23. Assisted by Cedric Pare and Pat Cannone. Kansas City goal: Phil Marinaccio (4) at 17:13. Shots: KC 9, UTA 13

Third Period Kansas City goal: Jared VanWormer (14) at 19:49. Assisted by Darik Angeli. Shots: KC 10, UTA 18

Notes and Streaks Phil Marinaccio has points in consecutive games. The Mavericks went zero-for-one on the power play and three-for-four on the penalty kill.
