MAVERICKS, KRAKEN EXTEND CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER AFFILIATION

MAVERICKS, KRAKEN EXTEND CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER AFFILIATION

The Kansas City Mavericks and the NHL’s Seattle Kraken announced today a multi-year extension of their affiliation agreement, solidifying a championship-caliber partnership that has consistently seen sustained success and elite player development since the alliance began at the start the 2022-23 season.

What started as a fresh connection between the Mavericks and the Kraken has quickly evolved into one of the most effective development partnerships in the ECHL, solidified by on-ice achievement and organizational alignment. Driven by a shared commitment to development and winning, the extension ensures the Mavericks will continue serving as both Seattle’s and Coachella Valley’s ECHL affiliate for years to come.

“Since our affiliation with the Seattle Kraken began in 2022-23, we’ve seen tremendous growth and success within our organization – rising talent, record-breaking performances, key milestones, as well as season ticket and attendance growth” said Mavericks Team Owner, Lamar Hunt Jr. “This extension reflects our shared commitment to developing hockey at every level in Kansas City and within the Kraken organization. We’re excited to continue building on this foundation, supporting players, coaches, the community, and growing the game we love for years to come.”

Over the past four seasons, the Mavericks have embraced that partnership by establishing themselves as a force in the ECHL. Kansas City has captured the Brabham Cup as the league’s best regular-season team twice in the last three seasons, set franchise and league records for wins and road success, and advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals for the first time in club history. Achievements that reflect the organization’s winning culture and strength of its development pipeline.

“We’ve built an outstanding relationship with the Seattle Kraken and the Coachella Valley Firebirds organizations. In Kansas City, we take great pride in being a part of their development system” said Mavericks GM and Head Coach Tad O’Had. “Over the past four seasons, we’ve shared a great deal of success, and they are truly a first-class organization to work with. Their communication, leadership, and commitment to developing prospects align perfectly with our values. We look forward to continuing that success and playing an important role in the growth of their players.”

Through this extended agreement, Mavericks fans can look forward to more opportunities to see future NHL talent take home ice in Kansas City, while players receive a competitive environment, world-class treatment, and a coaching philosophy that mirror the Kraken’s standards. This seamless alignment between both organizations has allowed prospects to transition, compete, and grow at every step of their professional journey.

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the Kansas City Mavericks, which has become a vital part of our development pipeline,” said Ricky Olczyk, Assistant General Manager of the Seattle Kraken. “Over the past couple of years, they continue to establish a first-class environment for developing players and fostering a winning culture that aligns with our organization’s vision. This partnership has been incredibly valuable, and we’re excited to continue working together to help our players take the next step in their respective careers.”

“We’re thrilled to extend our affiliation with the Kansas City Mavericks” said Troy Bodie, Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Coachella Valley Firebirds. “Over the course of four seasons, they’ve been an outstanding partner for our organization, providing a first-class environment for player development and a culture that aligns perfectly with what we’re building in the Coachella Valley. This relationship has been incredibly fruitful, and we’re excited to continue our affiliation and helping our players take the next step in their careers.”

The Mavericks are set to return to the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, with the opening round beginning April 24th and 25th at Cable Dahmer Arena. As Kansas City continues its pursuit of a championship, fans will once again have the opportunity to watch the next wave of Seattle Kraken talent compete in one of the most exciting environments in the game.
