INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks have signed veteran goaltender Ty Rimmer for the 2017-18 season, announced Wednesday by Mavericks general manager Brent Thiessen.
“Ty definitely brings a lot of experience to our goalie group,” said Thiessen. “He takes a professional approach to the rink every day. He is a solid addition to our team.”
Rimmer, 25, has played professionally since the 2012-13 season when he broke into the AHL with the Manchester Monarchs. He has since played for the Oklahoma City Barons (2013-14) and the Bakersfield Condors (2015-16).
Last year, the Edmonton, Alberta, native competed for the Vipiteno Sterzing Broncos of the Alps Hockey League last season, a league that consists of teams from Austria, Italy and Slovenia. With the Broncos, Rimmer played in 31 games and claimed a 2.36 Goals Against Average with a strong .921 save percentage.
“Ty is a true professional, from his gameday performance through his approach in practice,” said Mavericks head coach John-Scott Dickson. “He’s a guy who has played at the next level and will provide great experience to our team. We’re excited about adding Ty to our roster.”
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound goaltender also brings ECHL experience to Kansas City with stints with Bakersfield (2014-15) and Norfolk (2015-16). He has played 59 games at the ECHL level and carries a 22-24-7 record in net.
“I'm very excited to be joining the Mavericks organization,” said Rimmer. “I had heard only positive things about Kansas City, and John-Scott (Dickson) confirmed what it would be like to play for the Mavs. I am really looking forward to competing in front of such passionate fans and being a part of the Kansas City community.”
Prior to his professional career, Rimmer spent time with the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings, Prince George Cougars, Tri-City Americans and Lethbridge Hurricanes over five seasons.
The Mavericks open their season on the road at Tulsa on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:05 p.m. and will open the 2017-18 home schedule on Saturday, Oct. 28 against Wichita, also slated for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. The team will hold its annual Fan Fest on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
