ALLEN, Texas – The Kansas City Mavericks used third-period goals from Justin Breton and Shawn Pauly to claw back from a two-goal deficit, but a late goal from Allen proved the difference as the Americans took Saturday’s contest by a 3-2 score.
With the loss, the Mavericks leave Allen with a series split as they turn their attention to the regular season.
The Americans struck first with a goal from Olivier Archambault to seize a 1-0 lead late in the first period.
The teams then battled to a draw in a scoreless second, and it was Allen’s Alex Schoenborn who extended the home team’s lead to 2-0 with a goal at the 2:06 mark of the third. The Mavs roared back with back-to-back goals from Breton (9:38) and Pauly (17:38) to draw even, but Allen’s Bryan Moore netted the game-winner with only 95 seconds remainig.
Goalie Tyler Parsons made his Mavericks debut, stopping 29 of 32 puck that he faced in the game.
The Mavericks will drop the puck on the regular season at Tulsa on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:05 p.m. and will hold their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7:05 p.m. against Wichita. Season tickets, mini packs and single-game tickets remain on sale.
